Clean free space not working

    It works fine on my machine that has XP Pro, but it doesn't do anything on the machine that has Windows 98 after I click go. What could be the problem?

    I have shut down all of the processes I could and it still will not work.

    The encryption seems to work fine.

    Hi Wayne, are you sure it's not working? Is there any disk activity? If it is an extremely large drive and you have a high number of "overwrite" passes it may appear it is doing nothing.

    I let it run for all night a few nights ago and it showed no progress in the morning.

    It shows progress imediately on my other computer and that computer has an 80 mb hard drive.

    This computer only has a 20 mb hard drive. It uses Windows 98 and the hard drive is formatted FAT instead of NTFS.

    Should I try it in safe mode?

    I have XP Pro with 15GB free space on one of my partitions.
    Tried cleaning free space many times but each time activity reaches 4094 MB then stops dead.
