OK, I killed Chrome in Task Manager, restarted Chrome > About and I've now got the new version. I haven't ever had any problem updating Chrome before.
I did not want to wait any longer so i downloaded 107 x64 from the link. Seems to be working good so far.
A while ago I removed both google update services and deleted task schedules also. I never got the back. Maybe that's why I have problem with getting this last update.
It looks like new version is ignoring Google update policy configuration also: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=512627
So I've tried again and this time it was looking OK, until I got this error: I guess I will wait for a bit longer, hoping they will fix the problem.
They'll have it fixed, and probably soon. Or they'll skip this version and bump it up to something else. It's hard to wait around when you know there's an update out there, unless of course it's a Microsoft Update, in which case waiting has been the wise choice for many for quite some time now. Here's hoping Chrome isn't going down that same path.
I see that there is an alternate (offline) Google Chrome installer that is discussed here --> https://support.google.com/installer/answer/126299?hl=en .

107 by internal update. Norton reports 'widevinecdmadapter is safe'. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/6072728?hl=en Not of fan of Chrome update running with Chrome closed and background un-checked.
That's not the same error I got, my "!" circle was yellow and not red, and something about "oh dear..." And on that computer, everything connected to the google update service etc.. is default. @Mister X Yes thanks, though I mainly posted to share that I also had issues. But it is not a computer I use everyday, so i'll try to update Chrome next time I boot it up.

It does not seem to change anything and only takes a minute to install. I do the same thing with the Maxthon Browser.
At work, I am on 125. At home, 107. I have decided I'll update manually from this point forward. This update situation happens way, way too often. While I'm at it, I'll go 64 bit!

Manually updated to 125 (64 bit.) So far, so good. I do not understand why a piece of software that updates so often can't update properly. Amazing if you think about it...
Update success using internal updater in manual mode! But I had to change services in order to make it happen. I have had both Google update service (gupdate & gupdatem) set at disabled and manual respectively, and just moments ago I could not update. I would either get the response that it was up to date (at 107), or an error message ("Update failed (error: 4)An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 4: 0x80070005 -- system level"), or get stuck inside an endless relaunch loop. But as soon as I changed Startup type for gupdate service from disabled to manual, I was able to get 125 from the internal program updater... on two 7x64 machines. I immediately thereafter reset gupdate service to disabled, and left gupdatem at manual.
Chrome x64 is the best thing since the invention of the wheel. It works so much better for me than Chrome 32 bit did. Much better than the testing specs showed. It might be because of the 21 extensions that i have.
