Is there a way to change default Folder icon in XP via Folder optiosn etc without help of any third part tool.

I tried but the Change icon option is greyed out.

    Thanks

Unfortunately not. However, you can change individual folder icons. R-click on the folder, then

Properties|Customize|Change Icon. You are not limited to those icons in \Shell32.dll:

    Try this:

Right-click on a folder, go to the Customize tab, and click Change icon.

That will change only the icon of that specific folder.

Oh well. Then I guess the answer to your question is "no".

Short of changing individual folder icons thru the CUSTOMIZE tab on PROPERTIES and/or the DESKTOP (Customize Desktop) from right clicking empty spot on desktop and properties which allows something on the order of 5 desktop system icon changes, i always use the iPhile (freeware) app to make mass folder AND file icon changes in XP Pro.

ResHack can change shell32 icons but that takes way too much time.

I have an "Advanced" button, where I can change the icon in Folder Options/File Types, maybe because I have SP3, but I don't play with icons. I'm an unadvanced user, who doesn't like graphical stuff and gadgetry.

    EDIT :
SP2 has also this advanced button. If you don't see it you probably tweaked too much. :D

Just open shell32.dll with Resource Hacker etc. and relpace that icon. Via Folder Options it's impossible.
