http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download v5.14.5493 (26 Jan 2016) - New Browser Plugins section for browser start up management. - Improved Google Chrome and Opera session cleaning. - Improved Disk Analyzer file scanning process. - Improved TeamViewer and PDF Creator cleaning. - Updated exception handling and reporting architecture. - Updated various translations. - Minor GUI improvements. - Minor bug fixes.
I like the way they separated the browser plugins/extensions from the Startup section. Ccleaner continues to be a very useful tool (now if they would just give us some skin choices....)
CCleaner 5.14 introduces a new Browser Plugins section to manage browser startup Items http://techdows.com/2016/01/ccleaner-5-14-released-with-browser-plugins-section.html
Installing 5.14 on my W10 x64 machine now I can no longer see any system restore points listed in Tools > System Restore and there should be at least 3.
the browser plugin for firefox is to handle really carefully - i strong do not recommend to use it, use firefox options instead.
Hmmm I use both Firefox and CCleaner. And I don't understand exactly what you talk about, got a link ?
He didn't mean that there's a Ccleaner plugin for Firefox. I believe he's saying he doesn't think it's a good idea to manage the Firefox extensions through Ccleaner.
ccleaner can destroy browser profiles. and i assume that it will kill chromium profiles too. chrome and vivaldi owns a hash file for its extension and some other stuff (supermac) and can recover files and settings from a google account. so absolute pointless for ccleaner to mess around in profiles. for firefox it found some old and not present flash version - that profile is ancient from v38_esr - if i would let ccleaner work on it or i uncheck it manually i would destroy my profile (same for extensions) it would make firefox behave in a wrong manner. further - ccleaner is no malware detector - it is neither nor usable to find adware like adwcleaner with such "browser plugin" section, its just an overview to dis-/enable like sysinternals autoruns. i mentioned it somewhere ago - the ccleaner list for cookies shows not the current state it shows the cookies which have been present some times some where ago - if you look for details and it shows 0kb (zero) that cookie is not present. next - if ccleaner try to work on the database (sqlite) files from firefox it will destroy such database. its a very sensible data i have to experience myself when working on a copy - firefox dropped it.
Regarding browser extensions Ccleaner has the very useful ability to find their location on the disk. Sometimes Firefox extensions cannot be removed in the FF UI and using Ccleaner to find them on the disk is a lot easier than hunting through the profile. Ccleaner can also locate auto-starting entries in the registry and directly delete malicious BHO's in Internet Explorer, so very useful for malware cleanup IME.
--> extensions.ini, open about:support and the click "open folder". CCleaner do not work other way round same for plugins -> pluginreg.dat the problem behind firefox extension is the cryptic name in brackets {987654-321...} - not all extensions and in special adware extensions use clear names. and not all adware extensions are put elsewhere in system, some are put into profile and activated silently. really bad are extensions like eg "youtube unblocker" (two versions: one bad, one good) which load adware extensions without any notice into profile.

Thanks, works well (as always for me). I mostly use it to clean html5 storage/cookies and other stuff. Always useful that little tool, especially because it's very easy to add own rules.
Seems they having troubles currently with there config. If the page has a maintenance then the both official mirror links should work: Code: http://download.cnet.com/CCleaner/3000-18512_4-10315544.html?part=dl-&subj=dl&tag=button OR http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner ^^ better download from the last link because crappy cnet downloaders ...

I'm still using version 3.x ! Well, rarely. And not for anything critical. Last time I checked out the latest version of CCleaner it contained junk. Eset Smart Security warned me. How is it these days ? What's the business model ? 'if you're not paying, you're the product being sold'
There should be no junk if you download from their site or one of the reputable sites mentioned above. NOT cnet.com though. You may want to opt out of Chrome or any other bundled software you don't want.
It offers to install Google Chrome if Chrome isn't already present on the system. It's easy to opt out. It also has real time monitoring enabled by default for automatic cleaning, but it's not clear to me how much of this functionality is active in the free version. This is also easy to turn off.
