What does running the cleaner do to the programs listed under the applications tab? The online info is vague and I notice that Avira and WinRAR are listed there but Eraser which I also have is not.

I ask because I see that Avira which I installed in May 2011 now shows an installation date of the 21/12/2011 in the add remove programs list on my Win7 Home Premium 64 bit system. Everything seems to be working fine by the way.

May be the result of some automatic (or manual) program version upgrade.

Could be, although the info file in About Avira in the program itself lists the latest program upgrade as 15/12/2011. I watched a video tutorial at majorgeeks that suggested you may want to uncheck certain applications such as your AV which I've now done for the future. No harm done though it seems.

It would appear that this is one of those times when I couldn't see the forest for the trees. I don't know how I missed that thanks. The program (at least the cleaner section) appears to be generally safe.

Something you can do is run "Analyze." Then right-click an entry and click "Show detailed results." It'll show the actual files that are slated for deletion.

Good to know as the first time I used CCleaner from the program list I clicked run cleaner which I thought would simply open the program.
