I just installed the latest ATI Catalyst drivers last nite. I rebooted this morning for the first time since the initial driver reboot that was required. The friggin could not attach to kernel mode driver surfaced yet again. I disabled the two ATI services via the mmc and disabled the start of the ATI tray icon and rebooted. NO problems :D

Thanks Pilli, I have it downloaded. I used to have Bootvis until MS quit offering it on their site. I then found a copy and ran it later(month or so) and thank god for Acronis True Image when I tried to reboot.

Not implying that version will do the same, however you can take it to the bank I am going to cleanup and make an image prior to using it :D

Yes, I disable PG on ALL drivers/"services"/AV/AT updates and installs ;)

For drivers I would use Protection - Disable all protection.
I have found no need to alter any protections for AV / AT updates KAV or NOD32 :)

    Have fun!

I do it just like you said :)

Bootvis was minor increase for boot speed as Perfect Disk already does this :p

Eliot might be on to something. I use the ATI latest version too. Kernel mode problem existed until I got the startup in the right location for PG. ATI-PG timing problem/conflict? Wonder if others who have had this problem using the ATI graphics drivers.

I use ATI at work and at home, no problems for me for any version of the drivers or PG. :)

I do have ATI drivers / tray icon loaded on this laptop and I'm having the error too. It took me a long time to get the error to stop... But the error only came back after defragging (offline) with Raxco. :(

Might be ATI or Raxco or... o_O Maybe it's because laptops 2.5" drives boot slower.
