Cant't get Paragon B&R 2012 free to run on my Win XP computer

I had used Paragon B&R Free edition 2010 for a couple of years on my Windows XP (SP3) computer to back up my hard drive to a Seagate external hard drive. Two weeks ago, it only worked about every other time. Now it doesn't work at all (it starts a backup, but the gears keep turning and nothing ever happens). I would get a pair of backup files with nothing in them. To fix this, I tried updating to B&R free 2012. The same thing happens--the program stalls at the screen saying Backup in Progress, and comments keep coming asking me to wait. Using a different USB port didn't help. Paragon works fine with my Windows 7 computer and the same external hard drive. Any idea what I can do?

 

Are these still using the same scheduled tasks from the BR 2010 edition?
