Can't View Server

Setup: Server Windows 2008 SE

backup server is MS BackOffice SBS 4.5 (antique!)

New notebook running Win 7 Pro SP1 64 bit

It has joined the network. Using the same UserID and PW that allows me to view the drives in other computers on the network, for some reason, I cannot view either the primary W2008SE nor the backup. And of course I need to. I can connect to the internet with it just fine (using it now).

I've also noticed that while it does connect to other computers on the system, it is terribly slow in doing so.

I've checked and the computer is added to the AD Computers list and in the same group as others in the network.

What should I check. It's been about a year or more since I have looked at any settings on the W2008 server, and easilly 5 years on the antique one, so please be kind and give good directions cause otherwise I will probably be back asking for directions.
