Can't view files

Have imaged my full C: NTFS to an external hard drive formatted to NTFS
with 58 gig left free. When I try to explore I get "no document properties available for this file". I can see all files/prog/etc in (*all files), but can't
open any.
A forum search brought one post which didn't help me.
New to imaging I need to ask a dumb question. Can I explore files on
my ext. drive and open them with the application associated with them?
Any help appreciated, only novice in computer skills.

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

You should be able to open any file in the image once you mounted the image as a virtual drive. Please try to copy the necessary file to an ordinary partition and open it then. The problem may be resulted from the fact that some programs modify files when opening. This is impossible for files in the image, however.
