Installed NOD32 trial version today. I cant update the program. It says it is up-to-date, but the "Version of virus signature database" is just 1.1618. Have tried thousands of times to update, even formatted and reinstalled. What to do?

I have ADSL (2 Mbps) so its not the connection that is bad ...

    Hi fredrikhil, welcome to Wilders.

Due to a very large update today (see a few threads here in the forum) it will take a day or so before the servers are caught up and the Trial version users will be not be far behind the paid subscribers.

    Cheers :D

Keep pressing the Update Now button and you will get it.
New update servers are coming soon. ;)
The 1.1678 update version overloaded the servers as it contains 5100 definitions and is 4900 kb big. :)

Not necessarily for the Trial version, priority is given to paid subscribers.

    Cheers :D

    OKey, I see.

But anyway, why does the pogram show a message that the database is up-to-date when its not? You should change it to "Unable to update" or something like that...

I will leave a message when it works

I have the exact same problem and I find it very annoying to say the least.

As the license for the antivirus program that came with my pc has run out, I was looking for a new one and thought I'd give nod32 a try. But unfortunately I am unable to update it since yesterday and thus it is using a virus definition that is over one month old, which is not acceptable for me.

If you really feel the need to hold back definition updates for trial users, at least don't show a misleading message like "your nod32 is up to date". When it comes to computer security (and any kind of security for that matter) there is nothing worse than false information. I could accept it if it showed something along the lines like "update not available at the moment, try again later", even though this should not happen too often. But with false information I can not live. After all, if you are offering a trial product, you have to make sure that this product delivers the needed functionality to keep the users computer safe. This is just not the case here in my opinion.

So the conclusion for me is to uninstall this program and see how aviras' antivir does instead.

    Have a nice day.

If you can't wait 24 hours while "paid users" receive priority for a special out of the ordinary update, then really it is your loss in not wanting to trial a superb product.

Hello nugmebot . When it comes to ESET , everything is priority here .
First let me say I agree with you that this message should be changed and I hope so this will happen in future ESET products/versions

Then , clients who have paid for their products have much higher priority than those who haven't paid . I think it is understandable why .
Although I am paid customer I also had problems on my computers and I even reinstalled NOD32 thinking something got corrupted . The fact is ESET established a very big update yesterday and it need to be downloaded and ESET servers are too busy now . Marcos , an ESET moderator , promised new servers and coming out soon and this will help all clients to have no problems.
Moreover , you don't need to remove ESET NOD32 because your Advanced heuristic module is fully up-to-date (see the Information) . ESET's heuristics are marvelous
    http://www.eset.com/products/compare_heuristic_detection.php

If you wait some hours I am sure you will have no problems . I hope you enjoy your NOD32 :thumb:

To answer your question, go to Logs --> Event Log. You will probably see a lot of "Error connecting to server..." messages, because the update servers are so full right now. The problem is, since your NOD32 cannot connect to the update server, it has no way of knowing that it is out of date. I guess those log messages are kind of the equivalent of "Unable to update", but they are kind of hidden. Perhaps a little message bubble that says "Unable to update" if it cannot connect to any servers is what you are after?

Of course, it will keep trying through its list of servers, and it will try this list every hour, so you should eventually get updated definitions.

Because it IS up-to-date with the update servers which service the pool of trial users - these are different servers to the paid subscriber update servers. Sorry - but that's the way it is - you get excellent protection still, but occassionally the trial is a couple of updates behind the paid version.

My virus signature file is version 1.1618 from June 23th 2006.

So you're saying the update server for trial users are more than one month behind? That would be totally irresponsible and more than unprofessional.

D'oh! Speaking of irresponsible and unprofessional. At least that explains why your software never updated. :ouch:

You can download the 30-day trial from http://www.eset.com/download/index.php . Be sure to uninstall your current software first, then reboot, then delete the C:\Program Files\Eset folder. Once you have done that, go ahead and install the trial.

In fact, I installed the legit trial version of nod32 yesterday and have not been able to update the month old virus definition at all. I have not stolen anything. Anyway, this is no longer of any relevance for me as I have switched to the above mentioned alternative antivirus program which works like a charm and updates without problems (even the trial version).

So, feel free to abuse this account even more, it just shows how childish you are. And in the end it doesn't change the fact that nod32 trial users are left in the rain with an absolutely outdated virus definition and the program still tells them that it's up to date, lying in their faces.

    Unprofessionalism at its best.

I'm outta here for good, bye.

    nugmebot,

I've been trialing NOD32 for a little over a week now, and UNTIL YESTERDAY, with an "up-to-date product".

I think the problem is definitely with their servers being overloaded, and that's why you were unable to update AT ALL yesterday. I wasn't able to update to the latest definitions version yesterday either, and still am not today. I've received at least a half dozen "error connecting to server...blah, blah, blah" messages - even after trying probably a hundred times now manually. Apparently this is a glitch in their system that they have reported that they are working on (in the process of rolling out new servers)....so I am trying to be a little more patient, and would advise others simplt to do the same.

if you change the update servers on the trial from <Choose Automatically> - it will not update, as the other servers listed require authentication with a paid username/password. Trial versions MUST have choose automatically to update.

i think "webyourbusiness" gave you the best answer.. i have always had trouble updating trial versions of NOD32.. if you purchase a license, that will resolve that problem..

Yes , this a joke trial , i was going to trial the product today and hit update and it said "my product was up to date" which is a lie , also people who think if they keep pressing update are going to have more luck are sadly mistaken. After you've tried it once thats the only time it connects to the server, after this first time it dosn't even try to connect to the server , just a message pop-up saying it's up date. After reading good reviews about this anti-virus in a pc magazine i have to say i'm not impressed. Basically my computer is un-protected from new threats, i wouldn't mind if it TOLD you was not protected with the latest signatures and that proity is given to paying customers but misleading people(especially those who don't really understand computers and take the pop-up as true information) is not right. I probaly will still buy nod32 but this is a bad first impression. I have important files on my computer and do not like being mislead , especially by a company who has such good reviews in major pc magazines.

    Yes I think it's a joke.

If you wish to try Nod, may be you need to go first to casino to see if you are lucky.

Perhaps if I push three times update, I wil obtain one update and so for the others updates as a slot machines.

How can ESET think somebody can buy a licence if with the trial can update and in this forum we can view that people who have bought his licence can't update to 1.1678 and there is a new update 1.1679.

    Bad politics ESET.

Nugmebot, you are the one who said you were "a fool and stole the software," so do not be surprised if I call you a thief.

People on this thread have legitimate complaints about not being protected because the update servers are overloaded. Please do not trivialize them by saying you stole the software, then turning around and saying you did not steal it, accusing us of being unprofessional in the process.

For whatever it is worth, word has it that Eset will be expanding the capacity of the upgrade servers (I am not sure when), so hopefully this will be less of an issue in the future.

Just my opinion but I think 2 days behind on signatures is a problem. Trial version or not.
