This vulnerability or bug is still there for me in 1.40b !

APT kills all three processes using method 1. o_O

This has all gone OT from the original uninstall problems which seem to have been resolved,to the kill of the processes.

I also found the uninstall wasnt always straightforward.

Not seeing that here. Kill 1 is not related to the windows message handling vulnerability. Both 1.30 and 1.40b3 pass Kill 1 for me.

Well why would it happen in my case and not yours?

OK what would you call it- a bug?

Or is it completely unimportant-this is the crux!

Could be something in your rules. Is PS prompting you (sometimes multiple times) for action when you attempt a kill? I have PS (1.30 or 1.40b3) running on eight XP SP2 partitions over five machines and none fail Kill 1 (the TerminateProcess method).

    My mistake on this version.!!

I set to system protection-was prompted and APT was disallowed! Didnt go any further.

    Thanks.

Any discussion about anything but uninstalling is off topic. I'll leave this open for a while, but any further discussion about killing ProSecurity processes and this thread will close.

FYI, Autoruns is not able to turn off ProSecurity's autostart entries for Alarm and RuleEditor. Fire up Autoruns, disable the two entries, hit refresh, and you will see the entries enabled again. This is done at the driver level without any processes running.

As Pete said, disabling all protections and then exiting the RuleEditor before uninstalling will keep you out of trouble when removing ProSecurity.

    I'm running 1.3 PS.

I too am unable to determine how to remove it.

    1. I can't deny it starting in Start-Up managers. So it returns every reboot.
    2. It does not appear in XP Add/remove Control Panel
    3. your Uninstaller (a quality product) does not list it in installed applications.
    4. And YourUninstaller can't get into Registry in "ThugMode" to throw it out on its ear.
    5. ProSec doesn't have an uninstall icon.

    What do you suggest?

    Hi,

Much has been discussed here re: uninstallation method, and there are few modern ways to enforce it, but remember this :

forcing your way in is often not a very smart thing to do, APT in my view just like a shot gun wedding--you force it to your advantage, you may succeed, but side effects may linger for a long time. Stay nature, Safe Mode is there for you to use. If you revisit its definition you will appreciate it more. Simple and no hang over. In most cases, it works. Take care.

    Hi tisatashar,

Working in Safe Mode, as Perman recommends, is the best way to go. I would boot into Safe Mode and run the ProSecurity installer again. That should restore the uninstaller and its icon. You will get an "Install Driver Failed!" error. Ignore it. Restart in Safe Mode again and now run the uninstaller. I tested the procedure here and it should work for you.

    Hi,

Just d/l and inst ProSecurity 1.3 free and I DO find these:

    ProSecurity in Add/Remove and

    Unins000 file in C:/Program File/ProSecurity

These two are your lifeline to uninstall it. Based on what I have witnessed so far, I can say this to you:

Something wrong with your installation, perhaps reinstall can save your bacon of the day.

    Take care.

    I like this boy. :D

    It worked. :thumb:

At last something for the 'uninstaller' to grab hold of. It's gone. :D
