It opens and closes very fast. I scaned my system in safe mode against malware and nothing. Everything esle opens fine including regedit. Don't know what else I can do, can anyone suggest something?

Thanks for reply, but you're confusing Task Manager with task scheduler. I need help with Task Manager - the one that opens with CTRL+ALT+DEL.

 Mercy! Silly me. I think I've had that other thread on my mind most of the day and it caused me a major malfunction!

OK, so, assuming you're running Windows XP, are you running an administrator privileged account or a limited privilege user account when this happens ?

    Try Infiltration Recovery Tool.

    http://www.excessive-software.eu.tt/

Infiltration Recovery Tool gives you ability to recover some key system features when facing malware infiltration.
Many trojans, worms and backdoors disable Task Manager,Registry Editor and some even Explorer's Right-click context menu.
You can restore these features with Infiltration Recovery Tool in just few clicks.
Though there is no guarantee that it will work in all situations...

Infiltration Recovery Tool supports all Windows operating systems.

I just figured out that after reboot the problem is back. It worked after I logged on and off to fix it with that tool, but when I restart my computer Task Manager is not opening again.

Naturally! This utility is a "work around" solution that will simply enable you to get rid of whatever is causing the problem by making Task Manager available to you.

When you have Task manager open and you kill taskmgr.exe Task manager should close. To me it sounds like taskmgr.exe is running all the time, or for some reason you have more than one Taskmgr.exe.

After that fix when I close task manager it closes fine, it's not running in memory. When I do restart it's back to not opening at all. So, what I need to figure out is what is causing it to close. Abviously after reboot something resets to a previous state and problem exists again.

I got it fixed with XoftSpy antispyware. Did a scan yesterday with latest definition signature (i guess they added some more definitions recently) and it detected some nasties no other program could have. My Task Manager is opening fine now :thumb:
