Cannot Resize partitions in PM12

I am having difficulty with resizing partitions or performing any functions in PM12. I have a Dell Vostro 1540 with Windows 7 Professional. There is only one physical disk in the computer and it is partitioned consecutively. Every time I open PM 12 and attempt to shrink a partition (D partition) using Express Resize I get the following response in the attached jpeg. It happens whether I use the installed version of PM12 or the Win-PE Recovery version. All of the pull-down menus are greyed out so I cannot approach it through there. I have also tried the Linux Recovery CD for PM11 and it will not load completely. It stalls at about 95% load.
