Sorry for asking such a basic question - I'm sure someone has a quick answer.
I'm toying with the idea of converting my Windows XP Pro computer into a server and using Windows Server 2003 but was wondering if I can just install Server 2003 over XP Pro and retain all my programs/settings?
Or does the install of Server 2003 completely wipe the hard drive in the process?
Hope someone can give me a quick answer on this.
I'd prefer not to have to reinstall all my application software if I can.
    Many thanks.

No, you can't install WinServer over XP. You either replace XP with WinServer, or you might consider installing WinServer in another partition (thereby retaining your XP system & apps) and creating a dual-boot environment.
