can someone help quickly? traceroute falls at router - 1st hop

    why would treaceroute not get farther then the router (udp i think) but IRC works OK (TCP)? this person has problems getting his borwser working.

    You would first need to check that the firewall is allowing outbound ICMP type 8 (echo) and inbound ICMP type 11 (time exceeded)

    thanks for the help, i was on IRC at the time, something which did help was disabling IPv6 in firefox, it seemed abit odd, abit like a DNS problem because the browser did work, but it was very, very slow, but IRC worked fine, some things just weren't working properly. maybe there was something wrong with his ISP, or a router problem/misconfiguration. anyway he's gone now. thanks.
