    Hi there,

I've been trying to use Paragon Backup and Recovery 14 to backup my C drive to a USB stick.

Unfortunately it takes hours and then, when it gets to about 60% it has an error that says "VSS Can't read volume data".

I've tried running checkdisk on both drives and messing around with various settings but to no avail.

I wondered if it was possible to just backup the C Drive to itself and then I can just copy/paste the backup to the USB stick and maybe this work more robustly and faster ?

I was worried that backing the drive up to itself would put the software into a never ending cycle of reading from itself to then write to itself to then read from itself etc? Or is it clever enough to avoid this?

Thank you for any help you can give me on this issue.

    John :)

Not possible, AFAIK. You can backup to a different partition or to an external USB disk.

    Hi Robin,

Thanks for the reply. I'm struggling to back up to my USB stick.

My hard drive is 32Gb (but there's only about 7Gb actually used) and my stick is 16Gb.

My hard drive is running WIndows XP and I've tried backing up with my stick formatted to both FAT32 and NTFS but to no avail?

I've tried changing various settings in the software but to no avail.

And I've tried running chkdsk on both disks?

Any other ideas on what could be causing the problems? Does the USB stick need formatting a certain way? Or is there something I may be missing? (basically any ideas at all what could be going wrong) ??

    Thank you
