I tried searching for this problem and couldn't find anything. I have an unopened box of Norton Internet Security 2007. Can I still register and receive updates for this product, even though the 2008 version is now being sold. I don't want to open the box and find out the keys are not good. I still have time to return it. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am sure you can use 2007 keys in 2008 but wait for midway40 as he knows everything about norton.

Yes Bucket, you can use 2007 as long as it was never activated. And you can use the key to upgrade to 2008 if you wish.

Thank you both for your help. I'll try to update to the 2008 version after I have installed the 2007 version and tested it out.

    You're welcome :)

NIS '08 is faster than '07 as you will probably notice going from one to the other.

You should also be able to install the NIS 2008 trial first, then use your 2007 key to activate it.

i dont know too much about antivirus software. does NIS 2008 use the same engine as norton 360? i just bought 360 today, ive heard really great things about NIS 2008 and now im thinking i should have got that instead if it is indeed different under the hood.

Thats what I would do. There is no need to install NIS2007 activate and then install NIS2008. You can go to NIS2008 directly. That is fully supported by symantec.

According to 360 reviews on PC Mag and CNET, it uses the NAV2007 engine.

Thanks Elitekiller and Zombini. I was waiting till the weekend to install the software. I guess there is no point in even using the cd, I will download the 2008 trial version then use the 2007 key. It is pretty refreshing that symantec is allowing me to install the 2008 version with a 2007 key.
