Are there any plans for a major version upgrade. As I understand it any minor version upgrade is free and major version upgrades are not.

Yes, your understanding is correct.

I can't answer your question directly.
I can just tell you there is usually a beta test phase during 3 or 4 months for a new 2.0x release, and probably a bit more for a version 3.01.
Since there is currently no beta release it means you have at least 5 months before seeing such a new version to be purchased.

Probably for users who have registered recently (let's say < 1 year) we will propose a special price for the 2.0x to 3.01 upgrade.
