    Hi Folks

I hope I'm on the right forum.

Following an Op Sys crash, unrelated, I have been set up with a BT Voyager 220v router and Microsoft Security Essentials. I am using Windows XP Pro with SP 3. FireFox 3.6.3 is my main Browser with Thunderbird 3.0.4 for emails.

Because I do a lot of genealogy I need to be watertight. The Voyager is set up to block in-bound packets. I used to use Avira Security Suite and would be quite happy to continue with the 2010 version. I presume that means I drop Security Essentials.

What else do I need to do to ensure a high level of safety?

    Thanks

    Mike

Use only 1 AV of choice, whichever you end up with, at one time; disable scripting (java, java script and activex with IE) for all sites except Trusted ones. Keep you machine and your security software updated and any email you are not sure about, delete. If not sure about some aspect of security come and ask in forum

and some more suggestion in your other thread
