After doing so copypaste the text in the quote box into an empty notepad window :

    Hit save as
    save as filename:
    spad.reg
under the filename set to all types.
    save it to the desktop.

    Don't do anything yet

Then restart PC in Safe Mode : Here's How

Remove the following files / folders :

    c:/spad/ <- this folder
    HPCMDTY.DLL <- this dll (search via start -> search -> files/folders)
    c_10230.dll <- this dll ( " " " " ")

    Clean temp internet files

Doubleclick on spad.reg and click yes when asked to merge with registry!

    Restart again in normal mode

    Hope this helps

    Cheers,

    Hi,

    I'm afraid that's not possible

Just copypaste it in notepad and save it however you like

then you can doubleclick the txt file and check instructions while being not online

    Cheers,

Unzy-Followed your instructions-all went well except I was unable to find the 2 dlls you listed (HPCMDTY...,c_10230). Finally searched anything dll-about 4000 entries-not there. Proceeded anyway install spad.reg etc.

Just returned to normal mode-all seems well. Anything more I should do? (I assumed dlls not present=good)

Don't know how to thank you and all others who help like this- even on first holiday of the summer!!

    Hi cadmus,

Glad we were able to help :)

Hmm strange you did not find those dll's, they are normaly responsible for this type of hijack

Let's hope it does not return

    Just to make sure :

Can you search one more time but this time with hidden files and folders set to show! : Here's How

    Keep us posted

    Thnx!

    Cheers,

Unzy-You are right-its back. Will need to try later after work. questions:
1.Should I use that same set of registry tweaks as before?
2.Could you breifly describe how to search for and delete dlls? I might have done it wrong.

    Thanks again-
    cadmus

Unzy- it gets stranger. PC began freezing up-3-finger salute (task-mngr) produced error beep. Had to shut down via power button. Did restore to a few days back and repeated your steps. Still could not findHPCMDTY. dll. c-10230.dll would not delete-"cannot read from file or disk". Then spad.reg would not load-something about "is not script-must be binaries" . (I'm sure I've mis-quoted-didn't write it down)

Upon normal re-boot Registry Mechanic (Winguides) identified c-10230.dll as bad and dleted! My head is swimming and I'm probably driving you nuts.

But everything seems normal as I leave for work and HijackThis shows no traces I recognize. Any advice (at your leisure) gratefully accepted.

    Thanks again,
    cadmus

    Hi cadmus,

I'm not that easily satisfied. :)

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file)

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [csrss] C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe <= the real one is in the System32 folder

    Regards,

    Pieter

Pieter-did as suggested, but Windows would not let me delete csrss-"file in use...etc." Task manager said could not end "critical system process". New HijackThis scan show other 3 objects gone. Read somwhere about false csrss-don't remember details. New log:Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7

    Hi cadmus,

It looks to be disabled from startup and no longer running. I am sure F-Secure will get rid of it for you after one of the coming updates.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Pieter-Yes, I've seen no more problems. Aloha to you and Unzy for your most generous time and effort.
