Folks, I don't want any flames but tell me what is wrong on installing the update that will check whether your machine will be suitable/compatible with Win 10 and the update that resolves the shutdown bug?

    " New " update notifications today :-

    KB3021952 Published 10/02/2015
" Cumulative Security update for IE11"

    KB3032359 Published 10/03/2015
" Cumulative Security update for IE11"

Both of these show in my Update History as being already installed ...... earlier this year.

I still can't find an intelligent explanation for why MS Update notification offers these older updates
    when they are already installed.

Did anyone else see these today ?

I fail to see the need to check if your computer is compatible or not if you have no plans what so ever on upgrading to Win10 any time soon, and want to stay with the OS you got. :)

I'm not surprised they're doing it either... I don't see what difference it makes if it's installed or not, as long as it's not causing a problem. There are 2 million other updates that nobody knows what they're doing either. Who cares? :)

'as long as it's not causing a problem' is the crux of the matter though. I don't believe MS is particularly thorough in testing these patches nowadays. Which is very probably why they are starting to cause problems for many.

Sure but take it from an ordinary user perspective, such users have no idea what is needed (hardware, OEM software limitations etc.) to run Win 10. They only know they want to run Win 10 and these users are in Microsoft's viewfinder. Not you, me nor other Wilders geeks, we can help ourselves but believe that a group of geeks is just a fraction in the scale of Win users. ;-)

In regards to the reissued patches: I can understand MS reissuing a patch that caused a lot of people serious problems, like patch KB2952664, if the problems it caused got addressed. However, the track record for this particular patch gives no-one comfort, be they novice or an advanced user because this patch has been reissued 8 times. I installed this patch in October 2014 and here it is back awaiting install. As an average user I hesitate to not install the 8th wonder.

Now I see MS is reissuing other patches that people already have installed. It is difficult to determine if these are fixes to the fix or a Windows Update error. MS needs to clarify.

This is a very good point. I'm getting kind of bored with MS's often ambiguous definitions of these patches.

Thank you, I too have hidden this offering from MS.
This type of update to trial new software and versions are coming thick and fast.

Looks like Microsoft has ironed out the problems in the March Black Tuesday crop, but if you’re smart you’ll watch out for two problem areas.

First, if you use Internet Explorer (how old school!), you should avoid the patch rollup KB 3032359. Microsoft acknowledges that “applications may crash when they render table-based content in Internet Explorer 11, 10, 9 and 8.” Of course, if you don’t use IE, feel free to blast away.

Second, if you have Windows 7 SP 1 or Windows 8.1 Update 1, and you know that you’ll never want to upgrade directly to Windows 10, avoid KB 3035583. It installs an ad-delivery machine for Win10 that you don’t need......http://www.askwoody.com/2015/msdefcon-4-apply-microsoft-patches-watch-couple/

Isn't today another bork Tuesday? If so, it does mean for me that updates will be installed tomorrow (time difference) what is usually enough to reveal botched updates. Therefore before I install win updates (Wednesday morning) I read Wilders to see if everything's alright. So, thanks folks for your feedback about updates! :)

KB2990214 was sent to me the other day and today it is no longer there. MS obviously pulled it back - I assume this one was sent in error. So glad I have WU set to notify and not to auto update. The WU Team at MS needs a quality control group to oversee their Tuesday submissions as the former appear to be out-of-control right now.

    KB2990214 is back.
No longer as Optional, but as Important update.
The support page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2990214 now says,
"Update that supports you to upgrade from Windows 7 to a later version of Windows".
    Technical Preview is not mentioned.

Windows 8,1 x64. Office 2013. 31 updates. 1.2 GB worth of files. Still boots. IE crashed on first launch after updates. Seemed ok the second time. I guess if there are any more problems they will show themselves soon enough.
