I have version 8.0 build 791. After I installed Acronis I Activated the Startup Recovery Manager. When I boot up I sometimes see the F11 key thing just after bios finishes and the system starts to read from the boot drive. Sometimes I don’t see the F11 request. My problem is that after installing Acronis and activating the startup recovery manager I seem to have the following problem. I also created a secure zone and did a couple of backups. That seemed to go OK.

My computer has 4 separate HDs installed. Before Acronis I could remove any or all of the HDs and just boot up using my boot drive as always. The extra drives are just data and shouldn’t have anything to do with booting to windows. I sometimes had to go into the bios and make sure that I had the correct boot priority. Now with this software and the changes that it has made I cannot boot my machine unless all four harddrives are installed in my PC! If I remove even one of them then my pc hangs after bios and before booting from the boot drive. It just locks up at the same point where the F11 key request should be. Boot is normal as long as all four separate disks are installed. What is causing this and how do I fix it. Could it have something to do with the fact that when “Acronis Startup Recovery Manager is activated it overwrites the Master Boot Record with its own boot code?”

    Hello TJH,

Thank you for choosing Acronis True Image (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

We are really sorry for the inconveniences.

Please try to fix MBR, unplug all your data disks, aactivate Acronis startup Recovery Manager and plug the drives again. To fix MBR please insert a diskette into the floppy drive and run the file available by the link below:

    http://www.acronis.com/files/support/mbrautowrite_en.exe

Once the floppy is written, boot the computer from it and confirm that you want to fix the master boot record.

    Thank you.
