    Thanks Shorty and Robyn !

It must be my provider (again....?) or my far too old PC....
I will later try to ping/trace.

    Hi,

After 6 hours I was able to connect to the nsclean site again via both IE and BOClean itself.
So I got my update :D

    No idea what happened....
Maybe my provider (I called their support, they said "no problem", but...eh....hmm...).
    Maybe the telecom company...
Maybe my router being set up too strictly.
    Maybe something else...

Thanks for all your replies ! :D :)

Yep Bruce, I was thinking too about asking someone to email me the file.
In fact already called a friend, on the same provider, with BOClean; at that moment she was too busy with other things.

Hi Acadia, yes you're right: it is always possible that a baddie changed my HOSTS file, but there are several (on-demand) file integrity checkers having my HOSTS file in their database.
Hmm, now I think about it, time to add it also to RegRun's file-list to watch :)

    Thanks again all !
    Cheers, Jan.

    Thanks Jag ! :)

LOL, I was just in time because the site is again unreachable for me.

Maybe a big music festival not far away is also playing games, meaning that the lines of the telecom company are too heavily filled with music at the moment ;) ;)

    OK, the story goes on:
I just got an email from that friend on the same provider:
she too was not able to get the latest update.
She lives in a completely other city (same country as I live in), and uses another Windows version, another AV, another software firewall, another router.

    So.... o_O

I'd be willing to bet it's a routing issue.. there's a lot of computers between you and nsclean.com, and it only takes one of them to give you problems. If you're curious you can drop to a command prompt and run a trace route (start > run ; cmd, then type 'tracert nsclean.com') to see where it's timing out.

    Hey Notok :D

    Yep, I agree !!!!
But..... (blame it on me !!!!!) ..... my router seems to be so strictly set up, that I cannot use pings or traces...
Darn @#$%^&*($#%@ I wished I had the money to get a new PC, new router, new provider, new Jan :'( :'( :'(

    Hi,

I just got the new update, and I heard that my friend earlier today also had no more problem to get an update.

Sorry that I sounded so desperate yesterday.

Thanks all for your replies and help !

    Warm regards, Jan.

    Hi Jan,

If you are using Planet as your provider, the problem is probably caused,
because they had (again and frequently) problems with their nameservers.

So, try to resolve the ip-adress from the host that was unreachable.
If you have the ip-address, write it down, ....if it happens again, then
you can try to connect to the ip instead of hostname.

If that works, then you know for sure, that is was/is the nameserver.

Work-around nameserver problems: use another nameserver as your secondairy (2nd DNS) nameserver.

Work-around for this host only : add it to your host file with it's ip.

If you don't know which nameserver you are using, you can check/see that
when you are visiting my website (below).

IF you don't know what other nameserver to use, send me a email.
    Good luck/houdoe

    Hi tuatara,

    Thanks for your posting.

I was far too stressed yesterday to think clear

No Planet here, another ISP (not posting it in public); but I think that they too have too much DNS problems. And the info on their support page about problems, eh... , well... , let's say not always up-to-date (certainly not in the weekend...). I wished I had listend to Paul who adviced me long time ago to get another ISP...
Sometimes I had to inform my ISP that there was a problem somewhere near me (no, they had no info....). Sometimes I wondered by myself whether the folks at the "wijkcentrale" did even know what they were doing...

And then, not so long ago I had problems to get here, even when the board is listed in my HOSTS file.
Anyhow, indeed added the nsclean site to my HOSTS file already.

Several months ago I had even bigger problems; could not get any connection anymore. Finally decided at that time to let KPN downgrade my speed, installed new firmware on the router; then the connection problem seemed to have been fixed.....

    Well, I could go on.
    Hardly have the energy....

Maybe indeed I could try get other DNS.

    Thanks !
    Cheers/groetjes, Jan.
