Im running System Saftey Monitor, Comodo Firewall AVG Anti Spyware and F-Secure for Workstations. I was running SpyStopper to block web bugs and other web nasties but it causes conflicts with Comodo and SSM so I removed it. Which other applications are there that block web bugs etc in IE? Is there a way to block web bugs with my current software? Im using IE7. Cheers, Chris
not freeware, but you can try Desktop Armor or Geek Superhero. Theyre the same program just with different GUI. Many ad blockers such as Guidescope can also block web bugs.
The bad part of Ad Muncher is that it conflicts with SO many other programs. If not for that AM would be really great. I tried F-secure and Comodo and got the BSOD when AM was added. Ad Muncher also conflicts with A-Squared and Online Armor, among others. I would estimate AM conflicts with over half the security products I have tried. And you can check out the AM forums to see all the postings about conflicts. There seems to be a priority to resolve non-security related conflicts first. http://admuncher.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=5048cedafd8e203e8c448b2fb567ca31
It's been a long time since I used it myself, but I had a look over at their forum and like you said there seem to be some issues with security software. I also noticed the only solution for many was to give up their FWs and AVs and unfortunately the devs, as you pointed out, don't seem to keen on resolving these issues.
The Proxomitron blocks web bugs. It is free and doesn't interfere with your other security software. Sidki just released the latest configs. Grypen also does config sets. You can try both and see which you prefer. Proxo is available for download from Castlecops and both Sidki and Grypen have Proxo forums at Castlecops. +++GET 68748+++ GET /css/10/flex-Canadian.css HTTP/1.1 Host: i.dslr.net User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; ; rv:1.8.0.11) Gecko/20070312 Firefox/1.9.0.1 Accept: text/css,*/*;q=0.1 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, x-gzip, deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Referer: http://i.dslr.net/ If-Modified-Since: Sat, 26 May 2007 22:45:42 GMT Connection: keep-alive Match 68746: <img>... I looked some but could not find whether Guidescope uses a blacklist. Do you know if it does or some other way to block ads? It looks very intriguing.
It seems to use some central blacklist. Also I just mentioned that program because of a search but theres many other programs for blockign ads and web bugs.
Are web bugs a real security / privacy issue? Is it the case that if you block tracking cookies, they cant tell anything much about you?
