Hi, folks: Yes, he is back. Although I have not had too much experiences with his site(because I am a newcomer), I tell myself it is the time to break my piggy bank to assist him in future development, after viewing his newly revived web site. We, IMO, need his guidance and experiences to wade thru the mud out there. Folks, pls do not be shy away from helping a good cause.

Oh dear god, I hope it was better than his last one, there were numerous items that were illfounded, illogical or outdated...

For example his service advise is totally rubbish.

To quote PeterB from Arstechica.com

If a service is non-idle then it's (obviously) not eligible for disabling. If it's idle then there's still nothing to gain from disabling it because its resource usage is negligible, and when you do need the service it's much easier to let it be on Automatic than to tool around enabling and then disabling it.

And you can't even reclaim that negligible amount of memory that they take; it's part of the non-paged pool, and that's reserved for the kernel anyway. Stopping the services gives you no more memory for applications and no reduction in the OS's overheads.

The overwhelming majority of a process's memory is pagable, so if there's memory pressure it'll just get written out to disk anyway. There's a small portion that's non-pagable, so can't be written out to disk--but non-paged memory is reserved for the kernel anyway.

f the processes are idle they use exactly no processor time (the NT scheduler's observed characteristics are that it is O(1)).

If the processes are not idle then they will use processor time--but the simple fact that they're not idle tells us that they're doing something useful, and so are not eligible for disablement anyway.
