I have recently been told about Bittorrents and was told to check out http://www.suprnova.com/

    The website claims that

Whats you view on this because from what I understand, you host the file for others as you are downloading it. Opening certain ports on your pc. Is this not creating a security risk?

Slightly OT ... but related to Security Risks of P2P. ;)

Actually JB, file-sharing is hazardous period ... Sneaker Net, P2P or other wise, all dramatically increase your infections risks.

In most jurisdictions it is also illegal ... I'm not sure of it's legal status in the UK, but in Canada, it is legal to DL (as we pay a levy on All recordable media) ... but illegal to be a provider or UL. But while we are on the subject of file-sharing, I will remind everyone that Wilders' does not recommend using warez/cracked software of any kind.

This isn't in anyway a Speech on P2P ... just a warning of it's risks. I'm sure you are aware that todays Malware is designed to proliferate thru popular P2P networks like KaZaa and others.

I realise there is a risk in the way of viruses but what I was trying to focus on was the risk of opening ports on your computer to other users.

The legal side is another reason I made the thread because I was not sure of the laws surounding it.

I think the correct link is suprnova.org

You sure can use Port Explorer to watch all the connections lol

I'm against P2P programs and I do not use anything related to them at all.
