Bit Defender is just a shade above free these days. Can't really go wrong, despite issues I have with it, and some bugs.

I picked up a large stack of Avira licenses from a well regarded vendor today, 3PC licenses for 1 year, only $14.00 each. Not bad. Pretty hard justifying full price for this stuff anymore.

Webroot is another product that's 'almost' free most of the time.

Good Evening! Rompin!....I purchased last Black Friday B.I.S.2013...for 2 cents...Deal of The Century. That being said I tried it but always found it causing lag on page rendering...and the Full System Scan...woefully slow...and it had bugs associated with Adobe Flash Player...etc. I'll stick with Eset S.S.7....everything runs in harmony...and superb engineering. Thanks for the Heads Up...but the All Seeing Eye...has Seen ! Sincerely...Securon

 

I've having nothing but a great experience with 2014..no lags scans are around 1 hour or less for me.

I have the 2014 version bought for 9.99 thanks to DoctorPC
But parental control on both my windows 8.1 laptops don't work. Logged the ticket with BD and still no solution. BD lets all websites through for my kids' login - not sure whether this is an issue with all win8 PCs.

BD tech support is awful - it took them a week to say follow the instructions on how to setup parental control!! Called them and gave them a mouthful on how disappointed their support is. Still waiting for a solution

 

When i had BD Total Security 2014 the system scan took more than 4 hours. Unbelievable

 

I'm having the opposite issue. Despite only blocking a few categories and white listing several sites she uses, BDTS 2014 is blocking ALL websites on my daughters pc.

 

bd tech support is horrible this is why we decided we would not carry them in my shop. i find 2014 much better then 2013 but no where near as smooth as many others and still causes a pretty big system slowdown. for me scans took at least 2-3 hours.

Yes, it's strange.
Last year, I had BitDefender Windows 8 installed on my Win8 computer and on Win8 laptop.
It would take BD Windows 8 AV to run about 56 minutes on the computer and
about 4 hours to run a full scan on my laptop.
Due to some BitDefender AV issues, I not only refreshed my Windows 8 on laptop, but also completely re-installed Windows 8.
There were no other files on my laptop, but BD windows 8 AV would do the full scan for almost 4 hours.
Go figure.
BD is a superb AV but so sophisticated and advanced
, that you really need to dedicate your whole life to deal with BitDefender's CONSTANT issues. If somebody could pay some money for it - it's OK, otherwise...

(P.S. one can always find BD on sale with 82% discount - if it's so good why it's so cheap?)


....I installed AVG (worse ratings) but "FREE OF ANY HEADACHES".

 

You guys must have a full HD my scans are under 1 hr for a full system scan.

 

BD is good,,Lots of AV company's have sales surf newegg,Tigerdirect,etc,etc you'll see sales all the time with all the big names,right now AVG is on sale at newegg for $14,ESET is always on sale.

I don't hate colors, but my eyes don't enjoy it that's all.

Short message like those you've made lately is no problem, but longer posts in color is a no no for me.

Just first thoughts/facts about BD Internet Security 2014 on Windows 7.

It was easy to download.
BD AV uninstalled AVG, SpyBot, SpywareBlaster, but did not mentioned anything about Malwarebytes-Antimalware(?).
Everything was going smoothly until the AV installation got to 67%, and it stopped for 1 hour.
(It took me no more than 15 minutes to install AVG Internet Security.)
After 1 hour and with Installation showing 67% complete, I decided to restart the computer. Windows 7 restarted without any issues.
It showed that BD Internet Security was installed.
I decided to run "Full/System Scan".
It took 5:51:17 to run the full scan.
(I took 34 minutes for AVG to run a full scan. I ran it 5 hours before I installed BD Internet Security.)
I'm really scared to install BD on my laptop. Previous BD Windows 8 AV used to run about 4 hours on my completely empty (after clean reinstall) Sony laptop.

Don't get me wrong, I really like BitDefender, just two things:
1. Have enough Aspirin for new headaches, and
2. Don't get involved in trying to change/improve BitDefender. Leave it like it is. (Unless you are either paid to do it or are really passionate about BitDefender.)
