What are those main differencies between BitDefender 8 Std and BitDefender 9 Std?

    Best regards,

Is it after that the same as you are using NOD32 v. 1 instead of NOD32 v. 2? Not a very good offer in my mind! :doubt:

    Best regards,

Happy Bytes, are you sure? As far as i know BitDefender uses same method as Kaspersky (engine and signatures are basically the same, updated via updater).
So whatever BD9 offers engine wise, it's also offered by BD8 and even BD7.
Except few program specific features that are only present in latest BD9.
HiVE is one of things that is shared over entire BitDefender product line.

Use Avast 4.6 Home, if the AntiVir 7 PE Classic has some big difficulties to update. Still I believe that the problems with AntiVir are only temporarily.

During the last half a year I have used DrWeb as my main av and it has had lower detection rates in both Av-Comparatives.org and VirusP lately than AntiVir and BitDefender, but still my laptop has been clean all the time according to Kaspersky online scan.

Does that Firefox 1.5.0.1 and my other add-/malware-/spyware protections have something to do with it?

I don't think anyone needs to buy the October issue of PC User (AUS). The instructions read as follows:

There are some other great offers too:

Right, but if you are one of those people who are extremely righteous and would feel as though you are stealing, I just thought I would point that out. Just so a few people can sleep better at night. ;)

I'm slightly confused with some of this now !

If BD8 is only an on demand AV, and anybody can get it anytime they like for Free from them without a licence, then what's the big deal with this offer. What's supposedly different about this BD8 offer version, against the normal Free one ?

And it's not just the germans who are favourites, but the ozzies too now ! Well at least we would be able to understand it anyway lol.

Thanks that makes all the difference then.

So is this a reactivated version of what used to be i imagine the full version of BD8 with RTP, whereas the now widely available free BD8 has had RTP removed/disabled ?

I wouldn't want all the extra stuff like FW etc etc that comes with BD9 anyway even if they were offering that. Just the AV is fine for me, so BD8 with RTP would be great.

USA still the best. But barely.
You got it StevieO. BD v8 Std = RTP (Resident)
BD v8 free = on demand only

Antivir 6 is still the best in comparison with Bitdefender and Avast.
Why did they abandon this great product?
    Still cant understand why.
The GUI may not be slick and sexy but it works for me.
Its like when they put the new coca cola on the market.
Coca cola classic was the best, better then the rest.
    So is Antivir 6

Well i was happy with AV6 apart from the update glitches, and i believe it was a very good performer in every way. I wouldn't say that it is better than BD though, as just going by all the online scans i've done, on my PC and other peoples, my experience is that BD covers a lot more ground than AV.

    Goodmorning Stevie O,

Antivir6 is the Volkswagen of the Av`s :)
Maybe not the best car but a good simple car for a good price.
Not goodlooking, no luxury but its fast and light and works well.
    Never let me down.
Biitdefender makes my pc much slower like Avast does.

Bitdefender 8 is in my PC as of right now and running on my 98SE machine.

I didn't uninstall AV7 just disabled the running processes as i have done before with more than one AV in my PC, never had any problems doing this. And you can always switch between the 2 if you want to. So AV7 is there on standby while i monitor BD's progress for a while.

I filled in the details on the Aus BD site and got the Key and DL link by return email. The install went smoothly and it only took a few minutes to configure it, and then rebooted and manually collected the latest updates of which there were rather a lot as to be expected the first time, but they only took about 2 minutes or so to DL. I havn't rebooted yet for them to take effect though.

So far i seem to have noticed maybe a very slight difference in apps/pages etc loading/displaying, but only if you blink, or it could just be me, either way it's no big deal. The CPU usage is averaging out at around only 2% and other system resources arn't much different to before.

Early days, but looking good !

Good morning to you sir !

Yes i see what you mean, and flash looking GUI's without substance under the hood don't impress me either. I thought AV6/7 look just fine.

I tried Avast several years ago and i felt it slowed things down for me too, and the mp3 style GUI was not good, but the updates are. Non the less i know it's a very good AV, just not for me.

It's too early to 100% say that i've completely abanded AV7 altogether though, so i'll see how things play out.

    Hope you like Bitdefender Stevie,
    That popup is very annoying.
The gui of Avast is childish and not professional.
Everyone is free to choose wich av she/he likes best.
    Have a nice weekend :)

You can turn off skins and use avast!'s skinless interface that's plain, simple and professional (IMHO). :)
