    Ok, once again: :mad:

    The win.ini "fix" is suggested when you install this version and your license shows less than 12 months. This is a known problem of the bitdefender free edition (when you had installed this before) and then install Standard Version.

    You have to remove this inorder to get the full (and legal!) license time.
    That's not a hack, thats not a crack, thats what bitdefender itself suggests.

    You buy it! :cool: On serious note: Sadly this special offer appears to be only for German speaking folks.

    I'm not sure, but I think this is how you get the serial key:

    - Open/Start the BitDefender Management Console
    - Select the 'general' option on the left (the button with the icon of a book)
    - Now, on the right. Click the 'Registration' tab (which should be the second tab among the four tabs on the top of the screen)
    - Here, your product ID will be displayed (in the format of something like like '1234A1234BD123CABC1D'). Copy the entire product ID.
    - Now, uninstall your current version of BD and install the english version.
    - If it asks you for registration, use the product ID you copied earlier (enter it in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX)
    - If everything goes fine you should have a fully functional copy of BitDefender Standard, English version.

    Can anybody confirm this works? And about downloading BD 8 std english. Is this readily available, is it a trial which turns to full with key or not? Thanks.

    You can download the trial and enter the registered version key to make it a full-featured version. :)

    Hello all!

    I am very very surprised that Eset Moderator can post replies like seen above.:eek:

    How to modify *.ini files to "hack" the software. Telling forum users who's at "war" (mocking competitor AV companies).

    I never knew that Wilders Security forums has turned their back to "unbiased information"

    No offence, but shocked. :thumbd:

    I can second this.

    If you want a "free" copy legitimately, without the work around . Buy the OCT 2005 issue of PC User (AUS ver), and follow the instructions with it as posted above by firecat.

    Has nothing to do with hacking the software. It's removing stuff in the Windows .ini file that should have been removed by BD's uninstaller, and isn't.

    Ok, roger that. I just got wierd feeling about HB's posts. Modifying the *.ini file was not the only reason for my post. Maybe you guys know better whats correct. :)

    Take care and be safe,

    Here are some more short translations of the GUI:
    "Schild" = real time scanner
    "Prüfen" = scan
    "Planer" = schedule
    "Quarantäne" = quarantine
    "Berichte" = reports

    "Einstellungen" = settings, "Erweitert" = advanced, "Deaktivieren" = deactivate.
    "Eingehende E-Mail prüfen" = scan incoming mails
    "Dateizugriffe prüfen" = scan file on access
    "Registrierung prüfen" = scan registry
    "Datei anzeigen" = show filenames
    "Warnen, wenn ein Virus entdeckt wurde" = show warning message if infection found
