    I use Autoruns also. But it's only on demand - it won't notify you if anything changes...

    Now-a-days most antimalware have features to monitor new startup items. Else Winpatrol to the rescue. Startup delayer is another tool.

    startup delayer is crippled crap sind v3.
    winpatrol is fine

    btw autorun <> start up (not the same)

    best way is to disable autorun completely in OS and to start with right click on that drive (whenever system found autorun inf it is available)
    disable autoruns for windows and drives
    http://pxc-coding.com/portfolio/tweak-me/

    autoruns can not disable autorun for drives, but it worth for any other start ups

    for windows startups integrated msconfig can do - start > execute > enter msconfig

    just found sterjo in my list

    KC is ok, some of my mates use SUMO
    http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?sumo

    Hint: download the nork-setups (no RK = no adware) or zip.

    One of the other really usefull tools is Aphemo
    http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?aphemo

    startup delayer v2 was free and with v3 the author became greedy
    http://www.r2.com.au/page/products/premium-edition/startup-delayer/
    some formerly free functions are now only available as premium and he added ads into the free version - and guess what, program have denied working if no web connection is present. at least there were other free tools with same functionality, i switched to winpatrol for a while

    SUS vs Sterjo
    SUS has a black/white-list, while Sterjo can move entries. both have real time scanning. i would prefer Sterjo cause it handels the SUS black/white-listing in another way (allow/disable/delete) - and its multilingual. both are not blown like startup delayer ;)

    concerning http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-startup-manager.htm
    i also would suggest autoruns for a complete check - it knows best all startup entries in windows

    Thank you ! Glad to see you are using ApHeMo. Should you have feedback to share, please contact me.

    Regarding SuS, i'm still making it better, and it will be multilingual soon.
    Please give me the list of desired features, and i'll make it better :)

    Best way to control autorun for me is whitelisting, I remove everything before shutdown with CCleaner and reg. Then I just add my entries.
    I have to remove task scheduler entries manually, but it is not like, there are many of them, I delete Windows tasks after clean install.
    Code:
    Include1=PATH|C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\|*.*
    Include2=PATH|C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\|*.*

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run]
