Well, I was looking down the list of firewalls rated best by Masotech. Jetico had problems with mp3 files ... not to mention, horrible programming, but lightweight. So ... any good ones?

Only 2 that I can think of right now.

    1. Look 'n' Stop which I'm currently using.
If you look on their forum its version 2.06 Beta

    2. KIS firewall

As for Comodo I dont think it's Vista ready.

Depending on how you feel about certain programs there is also McAfee, Norton Internet Security and Trend Micro's Internet Security.

Comodo is NOT Vista x64 ready yet.

    Hello ScythedBlade

I have also done a small research on that and seems that Look'n'Stop 2.06beta and Jetico 2.0.0.24 also beta are the only solutions.

    (Vista native? :D )

EDIT: BTW, what do you mean, horrible programming"? How horrible exactly?

And, yeah I stand corrected by CJsDad - Kaspersky Suite is the third.

At this time, between the two mentioned, I would personally go with look`n`Stop (more stable)

Jetico has still BSOD and network problems on Vista 64. They should be solved in the next Beta.

I haven't tried either on Vista yet, but yeah, I noticed more bug complaints on Jetico also on various forums. Thanks for your suggestion, I understand it's valuable around here.

I have installed both onto vista(32),.. I admit that the hardware on the PC I installed vista onto is not fully compatible (well,.. the onboard sound did not work), but chipset drivers etc OK. I only installed both for a short time, L`n`S caused no problems on my setup, and I was more interested in the comms being attemped through ipv6 by windows than the running of L`n`s. Jetico2 did cause a few problems, but as beta, can/is expected, so await further builds.

    Hey Stem

I think that a few more firewalls should work with Vista 32 without problem (non-betas). But for 64, Jetico got the best overall comments.

BTW, Stem, may I send you an OT PM regarding some strange 'issue' in Vista 32 I have? You helped me once, and now I seem to have some confidence in you. I would like to hear you opinion on this.

Anyone tried AVK's Internet Security Suite? It has a firewall, its site says that it is Vista 64bit compatible (a real rarity, sadly). And since AVK had the highest detection rate in the latest av-comparitives test, I thought maybe it'd be worth a shot. Anyone know anything about it? Does it have anti-spam?

I wish Zone Labs would get their act together. I love their firewall, they use Kaspsersky AV, its got my favorite anti-spam solution (mail frontier), it would be completely perfect, except that it's not working on Vista yet, and the last several revisions have left my systems dragging so bad I was finally forced to drop it.

For those interested in Look n' Stop which is not free, PC Tools firewall is exactly the same program, and is FREE! It even run as a service, and not in the current user which you can to manually do yourself with Look n' Stop.

With that said I don't recommend either for users who don't like rule based firewalls, and if your just going to use somebody else's rules with out understanding what they are doing, you might as well run without a software firewall.

You can always just use your hardware router...

That's all very nice, but it doesn't work in Vista 64 for instance.
