Hi . Your settings are OK -> good protection . If I were you the onliest I might change is to reduce the heuristic level to Medium to prevent false positive alarms ;)

if you enable the heuristic you can set it to high. the risk is pratically the same, but the gain is higher.

as the tests are done on-demand and your on-demand settings and additional settings seems to be all set to the highest available settings, i would say yes.

    MikeNAS,

Thank you for this Thread and your comprehensive list.

To the Default for Archives, I added a check for MS Outlook Mailbox (which I use for my Email).

I have left the Default of "Limit recursion depth set to the Default of "20" Maximum... and do not understand that setting. o_O

I agree with "High" for Hueristics, rather chance a False Positive (three in eleven months) than risk a Missed Positive. Just be sure to select "Copy file to Quarantine before action" I have repair and delete as Primary and Secondary actions.

If you enter your SMPT Server and other information on Email page, you can quickly forward files from Quarantine to AVIRA with a click of the icon.

You will just recieve an automated acknowledgement of reciept, if you want a personal reply of AVIRA's findings on a file, send it with this site:

    http://www.avira.com/en/support/submit_suspicious_files.html

You should have an answer within hours (during weekday 'working' hours of about 6-16 GMT)

When I set the Guard (real time scanner) to scan all files, I noted that my Bible software took a long time to launch. So some files or folders you may have to exclude if you use that setting. Still, I love this program a lot.

If this option is enabled, you limit the depth of the scan in multi-packed archives to a certain number of packing levels (maximum recursion depth). This saves time and computer resources.

I think that scan all files in real time doesn't increase the security because if the malware uses malicious code from a file with an extension that it isn't in the list, it's almost sure that the sample is new and will be not detected no matter if it's scanned or not.
