Prevx sounds exactly what I want, but it's free until it finds something. Is there any software in this category like prevx that is totally free and somewhat easy to use? Thanks

Also, I read somewhere that the Comodo firewall has an IDS system for software/processes. True?

There's only one problem with that. Processguard free doesn't block DLL injection, only the paid version does.

Prevx is only £12 for a license and I have been extremely impressed with it over the last 6 months. Initially it ran heavy but this has improved with each build release.

I am running Prevx as a stand alone suite and so far my sysem is clean.

There is no other Prevx like HIPS that is free( or even paid). Because of nature of this type of HIPS, it can never be free unless it earns money from some other ways to go on.
Classical HIPS with a lot of pop ups( leaving the decision totally on user) are there. Good free choices are SSM and PG free editions. I like SSM as it has some registry protection as well and has advanced rules plus GUI disconnected mode locks up ur system against malware. PG has application termination protection that SSM lacks.
I almost forgot AppDefend beta but it has a nag pop ups every now and then that I don,t like. Also personally I don,t like its GUI.

I think Neoava-Guard v2 Beta will come out this week. Looking at v1 and the enhancements the autor had planed for v2, this will be a very powerfull and free HIPS.

SSM 2.1.15.588 (beta) now includes termination protection for any other processes that you specify. I have been running this beta since it became available. Very stable. Excellent!
