Hi, not sure this is the right place to ask, but I need to find a way to get rid of all the junk mail I am getting. I heard about a program called Mail Washer, about a plugin thing, and about some open source project. I am not sure where. What kind of software would you recommend?

    Hello cfp999,

I have been using Mail washer for 2 years now and I love it. You can visualize your mail, there is a black list, a friend list and you can add your own filters.
Then you can get rid of the unwanted maiL directly at your ISP, before you download it to your PC.

Depending on yur needs, either Mailwasher or Frontgate will identify your mail on your ISP.

I have used both and have no preference, except the free version of Mailwasher will only support one email account. Frontgate will support more than one.

Other free options are K9 and Popfile. I am currently using K9, and like it, but I am not sure it does any more for me and my needs than Frontgate.

I'll let the more knowledgeable ones here discuss that if you desire.

There are special Outlook plugins for POPfile (outlcass) and spambayes.

Both are excellent, with a slightly different feature set.

As for antiviruses, i know the "normal" ( non-outlook plugins) forms of POPfile and spambayes allow you to chain antivirus together with spam filters (if email scanning is implemented via proxy as AVAST is).

If you use the plugin forms of popfile and spambayes I don't know, probably works.
