Maybe is just me but this is a re-branded Kingsoft Antivirus? Anyway it looks and works great, even nicer than Kingsoft Antivirus! Thanks for the tip.

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

Could this be why we have not seen a update from Kingsoft for so long?

Edit: I just installed. I like the Kingsoft GUI more. Also, the Avira engine was disabled by default after my install.

Also not nearly as light as it used to be. After enabling Avira engine, using 131meg of ram.

I dont see this screen on the GUI. Is this screen available only after completing a scan?

If Avira is enabled, does it updates the databases or Avira too is available as Cloud?

Engine option - What is low, normal & high? Why low is the default? Even Avira is not enabled by default, why?

Edit - Ok, I got the screen, its a slider on the Home screen.

Just checked it and it's all in the cloud, which means it won't be getting a try from me. I do love the idea though of a multi-engine cloud product, but I dunno. Call me old fashioned but I have to have some type of signatures resident incase the machine somehow loses connectivity. I guess thats where the "Hips" function would come into effect though.

Did a test with 24 zeroday malware on real system xp sp3 32 bits i.e no vmware

    Executed 24 malware

Lots of popups, trying to do this-that with proactive enabled

With Proactive disabled, AV detected 0/24

With Avira enabled, AV detected - 18/24

And this is the problem with HIPS, The product design is great because unless you accidentily click the wrong button or there is a In the wild exploit, its near impossible to become infected. But at the same time with how it is structured, its just not usable from a non tech-savy individual.

I just tried this out with the Avira engine enabled. It would not detect the eicar test virus either on download or an on-demand scan. Can't trust it. Uninstalled.

It's back up to 127meg of ram. This just isn't anywhere as light as it used to be.

It's free forever until it fizzles out in say a month or two maybe three.

I doubt that will happen. There are several free Chinese antiviruses, which have been around for some time - but they are usually in Chinese.

Maybe it only detects actual viruses.

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

So that it is as light as possible.

Also, I think it has to do with making it more compatible with other AVs - you can run it alongside another AV. But, Baidu do not recommend this.
