Backup Software for Yahoo or Gmail Emails?

    Just wondering if there are any programs that would allow to make backups of email that is stored on the Yahoo or Gmail servers?
    One of my friends is only using web-based email and wants to have some backup just in case.

    beethoven, use YPOPs! to download (or backup) e-mails from your Yahoo Mail.

    Your friend can turn on imap on gmail and set thunderbird (or whatever) to keep full offline copies of everything.

    YPops! is the way to go for Yahoo.
