I have a working IBM Thinkpad R40. I was able to create a tib file that was 5gb but when I restored it onto another drive, it did not boot. I would just get a flashing cursor. I am wondering if it is related to how this R40 had a hidden partition maybe it is somewhat goofy.

I originally had a 20GB/4200RPM drive that Acronis was able to allow to move over to a 60GB/5400RPM drive.

If I clone the drive directly to the other drive I think that works. But I want to do this (a backup) so I can have a TIB to archive.

Here is some additional info. The IBM partition originally contained a hidden partition, I think it was approx. 4GB that you could restore from using the Setup/BIOS. I originally had Ghost 2003 (dos disk) but that did not help at all. I used Acronis 9 True Image 9 Home Edition and it was able to create a bootable copy of my original drive however it did not bring over the hidden partition. This is not a problem since (IF) I can backup/clone my 60GB drive to either a TIB or another hard drive I don't care about having that original hidden partition.

I am wondering if when I created my original clone to this 60GB drive maybe there is still something goofy that the OS is not seeing or booting because of that.

thanks for your time and any help,

    David

    Hello davidchapa,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

I am sorry for the delayed response.

Could you please clarify the issue in more details? Did you create the image of the entire hard drive or only of the system partition? Please explain your step-by-step actions which you took to restore the image archive. Did you resize the partition during the restoration?

Please note that the Clone Tool of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home create the exact copy of the source hard drive on the destination hard drive. It copies all the partitions (including hidden partitions).

    Thank you.
