I found the eXtendia AVK Pro very heavy on all my systems here if the double-engine was enabled in the RTM. Performance, however was not affected when running the single RAV or KAV engine.

Therefore, unless I applied some tweaks, for most of the time I ran this AV in real time only with one of the engines enabled.

The RAV engine took only 2,300K VM, whereas the KAV engine used only 4,434K VM on one of my computers.

In contrast when I trialed the GDATA AVK, performance was very smooth, despite the much heavier RAM footprint of 27MB. But this was on a very new old laptop!!!

Detection would be top-notch for both products.

But are the RAV definitions still being supplied to eXtendia's AVK Pro?

I doubt now whether you would be able to accurately compare their detection rates of GDATA 2005 and eXtendia AVK Pro, as it would be difficult to find a site where both of these scanners are tested.

Obviously, they both would test very well because of the Kaspersky engine. After that it is the relative merits of the BitDefender and RAV engines and the speed of updating of both products.

    GDATA over at VirusBulletin; http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/products.xml?gdata.xml

While one site which compares older versions is here; http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=67&mnu=67

    While as shown, GDATA AVK 2004 holds its own against KAV 5 , with the exception of dialer detection;

Yes I think the RAV updates are still there for eXtendia AVK.

You should search google for Kobra's Anti-Virus tests, that one does a head-to-head comparsion of GDATA and eXtendia AVK; eXtendia seems better ;)

But because of the small test-bed of samples, probably no significant difference between the two ;)

And again the latest version of GDATA AVK is not being tested.

I have used both and GData AVK 2005 has better dialer detection now than eXtendia AVK. BUT since both are made by GData and eXtendia is just a rebrand of GData AVK version 12 I think. I started a thread between the two and alot of input was input into it, if you are really interested.

Actually I think eXtendia is a rebranded GDATA AVK 11 :)

I am still running Extendia AVK Pro as a back up on one of my comps and their has not been an RAV update in months. It expires in june and I will not be renewing. I do however continue to use the Extendia AVK single KAV ($9.95) engine as a back up scanner only, no RTM.

Wait a sec, RAV's website still has updates - latest being 29th of March. How can AVK not get it? o_O

You are correct it is version 11. As seen from the screen I posted in this long thread HERE.
@honyak - So, is the RAV update still 390?

Easy the support contract from when MS took over is expired, I cannot back it up but it makes sense.

    OK I guess that's a reasonable explanation :)
