I normally go to the same sites! but facebook is way faster now.... I gather you like it..and have no issues? try without it Edit i do use Chrome though.. https://tools.google.com/dlpage/res/chrome/en-GB/more/security.html
avira keeps triggering com surrogate to start using a ton of cpu and memory. tried fresh windows install as well as uninstalling avira and reinstalling. same result. happens usually either during or after an update. and the only way to stop it is to manually kill the process then everything drop instantly back to 0% usage. without avira installed this does not happen. getting annoying. note this is NOT a virus or infection as i said this is on a FULLY clean formatted copy of windows 10 x64. and the system is fine without avira. i sent a email to support and have heard nothing back yet. may go back to eset at this point.
In the last 2 days problems with that launcher showing that ABS was not installed when it was already installed, i've done a reinstall for about 5 times with no avail, so after that i completly uninstalled that launcher.... will see if its coming back or not. Also submitted a bugreport about this launcher problem.
I am using Avira FREE and have no idea what the launcher is supposed to accomplish. I completely uninstalled it and have not seen any negative impact. I noticed the launcher was rather large and now have noticed a slight improvement in my machines performance. Always, Wildman
talk about memory hog.... avira webshield.... firefox open ONE PAGE google.com NOTHING else... http://postimg.org/image/7m6tfwdmf/
Which Avira Product version it is? 15.0.17.273 (Update 17) or 15.0.16.282 (Update 16)? https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/avira.345492/page-163#post-2575241
this is not a beta on this system so im still on the update 16. they NEED to release this fix asap to the regular version....
April 19, 2016: Avira Product version 15.0.17.273 (Update 17) released today. Avira Product version 15.0.17.273 (Update 17) [stable] released today.
well we have not been updated here. checked 5 systems all still running .282, also the official download page still shows version .282
Needless to say that upgrade (via the automatic update) always is a step by step rollout. If you wish to upgrade manually, download the offline installer (212MB) and install it on top of the working version (in installer, select the "Repair / Update" option).
already tried that it installed .282 again... edit had to use this link to get the newest version when i clicked the link on the avira website i ended up with .282 still. they need to work on the updates imo: http://install.avira-update.com/package/antivirus/win/en-us/avira_antivirus_en-us.exe
Avira Protection Cloud also: Avira Whitepaper | Avira Protection Cloud (APC) http://www.avira.com/files/for-business/Whitepaper_ProtectionCloud_EN.pdf .
Two week now after its release and my avira free still didn't update to version 15.0.17.273. Is this natural?
none of my systems updated as of today (12+) i had to download it and manually run it to upgrade them.
I can only update Avira if I turn off self-protection, which I don't want to do. Any ideas for a fix? I have tried a re-install.
I am still running AV Pro version .282 and I have decided to just leave it be and see when it auto updates. I will try to remember to post a note when it does. I understand the phased roll out of updates but this seems to be stretched over a very long period of time.
Same here. It hasn't updated yet, it has always been very late in the past, I only hope that security won't be compromised...
I just tried out the new 15.0.17.273 version of Avira Free (213 mb) on a test pc to see if the rumors were correct that the Avira Launcher now is being forced and that it's not possible to uninstall it anymore. And yes, they are. You CANNOT uninstall the Avira Launcher anymore. If you try it anyway, the programs says it's required by Avira Free. Is there a way to uninstall this bloatware? I really like Avira, but the way they push this Launcher down our throats is just ridiculous. Thanks.
Avira is one of the best AV's out there, free or paid. http://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/avc_factsheet2016_03.pdf For the price of Avira Free, I can live with the launcher! According to Resource Monitor on my PC, right now Avira Launcher is using 0% CPU, 0% Disk Access, 0% Network, and Physical Memory Working Set a little over 4MB ...
