https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/mse-4.322765/page-34#post-2427277 ----- You can use Avira (real time) and MBAM / HitmanPro (free or paid) as on-demand scanners only.
I understand what you mean but on the same web page it says that "With Windows 10 we’re making substantial changes to Windows Defender to improve its detection capabilities, resilience from tampering, and it’s ability to recover systems from some of the most difficult to remove malware. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/mse-4.322765/page-34#post-2488885 https://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Ignite/2015/BRK2327 This is exactly what I was talking about, if Windows 10 Windows Defender would be or already is that weak against all forms of malware, than Avira is the right answer-but we will have yet to see in various tests and by the experience of users how much Windows Defender is improved in Windows 10, we will have to wait, but it seems to me in that time I will use Avira.
I dont think we were facing the updater crashes...all of us getting update exe application error for no reason, all of us updates were successful. in my report of avira, it said successful updated. In the past 2 days, i was getting the issue at the same time, always midnight, like 11:55pm est...or 1:05am est.....that's so wired...i dont know what's wrong with it...but i am pretty sure avira gave out that error...all of my reports said successful updated.
Update: Since turning off Avira product protection, have been running for a week now without the Avira 'update.exe - Application Error' popup message ... BUT ... the update failures are still happening, while appearing in a different event message, silently failing to update a couple of times a day, rather than giving a popup. I only discovered this by filtering for 'Application Error' and 'Windows Error Reporting' in Event Viewer>Windows Logs>Application (note: the Avira Event viewer will show the Scheduler job started, but then it is not followed by an Updater event, which is normally seen when an update is successful.) Good Morning! Total Agreement from me zfactor...Launcher is one Massive PITA! The only suitable launch place for it would be Marketing Oblivion...totally useless piece of Data Mining Dreck! Otherwise...it's Magnificent...Lol! Sincerely...Securon
Look who's talking! Above article comes from a company which not provide user manual (PDF) or at least an online help guide to the customers: --> -------------
I was lucky reinstalling Avira free, there's no launcher anymore. I don't what happened but it suits me just fine.
Avira Free installed on a friends Vista comp, has had Lukefilewalker freezing every time it auto runs, for a number of weeks ? Clicking X does not close it, nor does TaskManager ? Rebooting seems to be the only way !
Please go to Configuration and adjust the settings as shown in the screenshots (they are from Avira Pro, I think the configuration is the same for the Free too). Then, try a scan once again.
Two questions about Avira: 1. in the free version are the ads still prevalent and have the pop up ads frequently? 2. does either the paid or free version scan HTTPS traffic, specifically to email clients (I think through port 25, not sure)?
1.In Avira Free you may receive an little slide Up ads at you notification area which call In-Products Message(IPM). 2.Either free(past version upgrade) or pro not scanned HTTPS traffic(no support on HTTPS!) (I quite confuse about to scan https,it could create an privacy issues or failure implementation for the products refer to the post which show how antivirus implement the wrong way on scanning https...)
