Avira has been quite for way to long. Their pro-active beta has been going on for a very long time. Part of me just thinks way to much time has past for them for some reason. Avira has been fairly pro-active about setting the bar for vendors for the future. That time has come again as far as I am concerned. There has to be something planned. Stefan?

Well, I keep checking the beta forum and it seems like it's been forever that Vista users have been left out of the Proactive beta testing.

ye the beta for pro-active seems to be quite dead as far as i can see :doubt: its unfortunate cuz i was hoping on more news about it since it seemed like it wuld be a great addition to Avira.

It is my understanding that Avira's "proactive" will be based on a behavior blocker (BB) module. If this is the case, it does take a long time to develop and fully test a BB, especially one that is to work in full synchronization with an antivirus.

Avira is a well-established, highly respected outfit. They would be foolish indeed to risk their fine record by releasing a BB module before it has been beta-tested by a very broad spectrum of users, & debugged to the fullest of their abilities.

Hopefully there will be some movement, because how do we know how good it is without a beta test.

Precisely! I've no qualms about Avira having an extended Beta testing phase of the BB component, which is after all a new direction for them.It seems odd though that they haven't included Vista/7 users into that process yet. :doubt:

They might want to take on problems just one at a time. Instead of 3 OS's, all with there own issues lol Tho I agree 7 should be one of there main focus now. As alot of people are upgrading to it even off XP.

Tho I'm sure XP still holds the majority of the market.

If Microsoft ever decides to kill off support for XP (without extending it even longer) you will be amazed how fast people migrate to Windows 7.

All of my XP computers got reformatted to 7 when it was released. Avira among other AV's run awesome on it.

Yes you are probably right but the lack of news regarding it's progress makes me wonder what's going on.o_O

As for Windows 7 maybe not yet but it'll surely become the dominant OS before too long IMO.

I can't see that happening to be honest. They won't release an XP only version and won't risk something untested for a reasonable period on Vista/7.

intresting. but this won't be the case ;)

there will be a new beta, but for now there is a more important thing to release. The new Updatesystem, which we expect to be released this week.

and for the vista and 7 versions of the beta. there where problems with these os and as you know, avira is not publishing a beta version when they find problems with it in their QA.

Good they don't want to end up looking like Eset did when Windows 7 came out and there product went bonkers. Frankly I agree I rather it take them more time to get it right then rush it out and have to deal with months of buggy software.

    Edited.
    Typo's
