My big issue with Avira is, that "if" I renew my license for the AV Preminum, then the only thing I am getting extra over the free AV is no toolbar. A pretty high price to pay for not having a toolbar.:thumbd:

Well that sucks, considering I've recently bought three licenses. Good thing I have Avast and Eset to fall back on. :)

Thanks for the heads up hayc59! :)

Well I certainly hope so. I jumped on some recent sales of Avira just to have them for when I need them. But this recent news is certainly troubling that's for sure.

Hope they get things worked out!

FWIW, i've never once received a single undesirable email from avira after purchasing my licenses for avira premium.

since the ask toolbar is only required if 1. you install avira free, and 2. you install the webguard, it's sort of a non-issue for me. the people complaining about it should just go with another product or not install the web guard if they don't like it. sort of like voting with your wallet, but since you didn't pay for anything, uhh, vote with..your use of another free product, i guess.

    (this isn't to say i like ask, i don't.)

That's a really bad decission on their part. They will only lose customers imo.

Me too I have been using Avira for a while and really like it but I can't support a company that is involved in this type of activity so when my license expires I will be looking into something else. Hopefully they will see the light and change by then.

First Avira put very bad version 10.
The peoples go to Avast,MSE,Panda Cloud,Comodo IS.
One year after all, they do that?
    They are mad?
    They lose costumers.
Now is not the moments to make mistakes. Now Avira got to put finaly a good version to make people believe and comme back.
Avast start to make version 7!!! Untill the end of the year is here.
Are Avira have a money problem?
We don't need Ask Toolbar and Uniblue *****.
Weak up Avira the concurrence is here.:thumbd:

It certainly seems that Avira has jumped the shark. If I had known this was going to happen I would not have took advantage of the Cnet sale recently.

What an innocent response. they are acting dirty sheep now. :thumbd:

Alas this thing is going to increase, not decrease with time. Users need to be very aggressive against such companies if they want to change it.

yeah, the post on dslr says that the ask toolbar is only required for the free version. avira could have thought of better ways to monetize their free version than partnering with ask, but i don't blame them. people have long complained about the nag screen and figured out ways to disable it. the nag screen was there as a way to entice free users to pay for the protection they use by buying a license for avira premium or their security suite.

also, to those of you who are up-in-arms over their partnership with ask (more than uniblue), how many of you use norton DNS?

the only problem i have with it is that provactiv still doesn't work on x64 platforms, but judging by how many people have performance issues with it, it doesn't bother me that much :)
