It has been a few weeks since I downloaded and burned an AVIRA Rescue CD. I just downloaded today's AVIRA Rescue CD and booted from it and saw major changes to the GUI. The download file size was also noted to be much larger than previous downloads.

    The default settings are now:

    Scan all files
Repair infected files & Rename file if repair is not possible
Extended threat categories: Dialers, Backdoor client, Adware/Spyware

I remember that the previous defaults were Scan all files & Report only.

Also many more languages are available with the default for me being English. Languages choices from a drop-down menu:

    German
    English
    Spanish
    French
    Italian
    Japanese
    Korean
    Portuguese
    Russian (?)
    Chinese
    Chinese

Does anyone know when the major change was made? Any change details? Changelog?

    Thanks in Advance.

A scan of one of my PC's was just completed (2 internal hard drives - Report only). It took 29:37 minutes/seconds to scan a total of ~443,000 files. Fast Scan!

    AVIRA Rescue CD website:

    http://www.avira.com/en/support-download-avira-antivir-rescue-system

The first file is an exe which contains both the bootable ISO image and CD/DVD burn software. I always download the exe because it makes the burn process easier. You just execute the exe file and you are walked through the ISO image burn process. The second file is the ISO image.

Sorry for my ignorance, but does the AVIRA Rescue CD yet support updating though the web?

Yet? What do you mean by 'Yet'? It uses the Web for Signature Updates.

    @Mr.PC
Well in the past, lets say three years ago, you couldn't update the Rescue CD directly from the web. You could only update it from a local network path or a usb device as I recall. That's why I stated 'yet'.

Don't try to diminish Avira CD value!
It is, by far, better than the one made by your favorite AV vendor!

With the version prior to the new one, I was able to update the malware signatures through the web on 3 of my 4 PC's. The one PC that could not update had dual onboard NIC's (3Com & Nvidia). So I am assuming that the older AVIRA Rescue CD did not support the hardware of the NIC that I was connected to. I have not yet tried updating the new AVIRA Rescue CD on that PC.

    Hi,

You'll find a tutorial for this new version of the Rescue CD here.
