It was released today to beta testers and has a new GUI that I am sure someone will post pics of later. They have really re-made this suite.;)

ye they are very small screenshots.
from the little screenshot the stuff on the side looks like the kav gui with the modules to me.
hopefully a bigger screenshot will help me have a closer look.

not really. it only blocks programs sending Mails without the knowledge of the user.

So, it would be fair to call it a behaviour blocker with only one rule (mass mailing)?

OK, thanks :) It seems that spambots are a big priority for Avira, isn't it?

Re-made the suite? Seems to me still the same basically, the modules are the same as in v. 7 with improvements here and there. It's just that the looks is a bit different, but even that is not so drastic. It's more a reorganization of what has already been there. Configuration menu is almost untouched.

I know you like this suite a lot, but still it doesn't really seem revolutionary to me, just a next step in developement.

well the most changes you can't see. it has a completly reworked engine. that's why it gets the new version number 8.
the other things (except the gui, which is demanded by users for a new product version ;)) could also be for the av7 as you said.

It's a pitty they didn't do anything with the firewall. I find it difficult to configure. How can I trust networks or computers in the setup? It's not very userfriendly and I just have to trust Avira to do the configuration for me properly? It's the number one issue keeping me from using Avira.

How can one beta test this version? I'd like to try it. I really like Avira.

I use to be a Kav "groupie" until my browser started either locking up or slowed to a crawl.

Yep. I don't like the new GUI. Why does Avira imitate Kaspersky? I do though really like the replacement picture with the red and silver umbrellas.

What is blowing me away is that we waited all this time for this? UGH. All the things that needed doing to improve Avira ....we got none of them. Instead we got a new GUI that was a waste of valuable time that Avira could have spent on improvements that would really matter. And we got some backup junk. Nothing important.

    I am extremely disappointed.

I agree Mele, new paint is not what was needed. As i said earlier, I am not using it. SafeSpace fills my needs. Good luck to them though.

Most vendors are doing dog and pony shows with their programs and want to be all things to all people. The more features- the better. That is how they think they can maximize market share.
