Looks like a total AntiVir rebadge. Cool features: **Network (LAN) updating **Password-protected settings **POP3 Scanning **Assorted scan and update scheduling **Two-years-for-price-of-one updates until 2/1/05 Nice, uncluttered interface. Minimal eye-candy.
It appears to be a nice program. There are of course, many other alternates to this program, such as: BitDefender Panda Software Trend Micro
I think you made a typing error on that date (2/1/05). Did you mean 2/1/07 or.........? By the way, Jim, could you figure out what the price is? As far as I could tell, it's 29 Euro for 2 years. aloha..... bellgamin
This is a limited time offer until february, 1st 2005. It seems to be based on the commercial version of Antivir and not the free one since there is a mail monitor included.
Hi Bell, The price looks to be around $38.35 in US $ for two years. Sorry about the confusion--the 2-year for one price is good until 2/1/05.
Japanese publisher had an interview with H+BEDV http://itpro.nikkeibp.co.jp/free/ITPro/NEWS/20041124/153021/
Nice... an interview in Japanese. Not many people can read that, I am afraid. A small English translation perhaps?
H+BEDV recruited Dragos Stanescu, former International Sales Manager for RAV at GeCAD, and started to expand to the international market. They will not use "H+BEDV" or "AntiVir" for the name of their product other than in Germany. The CEO of H+BEDV Tjark Auerbach said that it is because the domain name "antivir.com" is already used by other company, and it is not easy for foreigners to pronounce or remember "H+BEDV" and "AntiVir." H+BEDV will continue to provide AntiVir Personal Edition. For the free version of AVIRA, the decision is left to the sales partner. Auerbach said the promotional effect of free version is extremely large.
First of all, the disclaimer: I am an AVIRA employee. Second, thank you for your nice comments on the recent launch of AVIRA. And yes, the first generation of products are basically revamped Antivir products with a different licensing model and some minor enhancements. The other differences are left as an exercise for the reader, all products are downloadable directly with minimal fuss. Obtaining a 30 day evaluation code is simple and the products will run forever after the license expires, although without updating. However, keep an eye on AVIRA as the second generation will be home-grown, internally developed AV solutions, although at the beginning they will still use the Antivir scanning engine. They are supposed to be launched before the end of 2005.
