Been playing around with this program for a while, but it's really very impressive.......I have not seen such a thoroughly developed av scanner for a long time.......reporting is great, all events are shown: when did it scan, what did it scan, what did it find.....and all very detailed. Even scanned mail is reported. In all, it's a very complete and easy to use av scanner with a built-in firewall, which certainly meets all my needs.

Highly recommended AV. IMO, the most improved one in the last 12 months and very cheap compared to other commercial AV's.

But will price remain the same when this suite becomes final?

    yes...that's right. It is fast
And regarding your wuestion about the price of the suite taking into consideration it includes new features like the firewall it will probably be more expensive, but I dont't think it will cost more than 35-40 euro.
Stefan Kurtzhals can give you a better reply. ;)

Just a screendump of some action by Antivir with the heuristics.........just great! I thought Nod32 was something, but this beats me and really impresses me deeply!

At this moment, I would surely put my money on this new Avira Antivir.....it's jumping forward very fast and has been performing very well through the years and with this new upgrade, it really reaches the top!

The update interval can be changed by adding a new job at the schedule screen. I have added a job to update every 60 minutes. The standard update job can't be changed!

hows the firewall in this latest beta. I found the firewall pretty transparant in the first release. Is it necesary to set up rules or does it close and or stealth ports by default .

That's really weird, I couldn't get it edited 2 days ago and asked about this at the Antivir Beta forum and was told, that every 1 day was standard with the installation and had to add a new job!!!!
    Better and easier this way!

Another great option: sending suspicious files from Quarantine to Avira to be examined. And you'll get an email back with the following answer:

    Dear Sir or Madam,

    Thank you for your email.

We have forwarded the attachment to our viruslab.

We ask for your understanding that it's not possible to reply your call
    individually.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Best regards

something that i have noticed (and i have mentioned this on the beta forum ) is that after updating the updater stops applications. The icon disaperes in the task bar etc. The firewall is also stopped for a minute . This was confirmed by the windows security centre that reported that "although i had a firewall installed it was not turned on" A minute later after the updating process had been completed and applications restarted the firewall was reactivated in the windows security centre and red icon appeared back in the task bar. According to the response in the forum the firewall is still protecting. However windows reports that this is not the case for that period of time.

i received an answer to my above query from antivir admin
the firewall is working on 3 Layers. 2 Layers are working on the kernel mode and the first is the application layer. So when during the Update the windows security center says that the Firewall is not active this is not true. The protection is still there ( 2 Layer on kernel mode). Only the application (service) is stopped and restarted.

    so its all good

well, Avira indeed stops its processes but hope this won't happen in the final version, at least for virus signature updates. It's a little bit annoying.
Anyway, I've noticed this process (of restarting its services) is 2-3 times faster than in Avira Classic edition.

This happens in the final version of the Premium alone version so very likely to carry over to this one.

Not unique, as BitDefender and Command AV also lose their tray icons for a short-time during the update procedure.

You do not lose protection at any point, but the sight of the tray icon disappearing must be slightly alarming for newbies!
