It is/ a beta, and it makes no sense to use it as protection on your regular system. If you want to beta test for the sake of beta testing, on a test machine, go right ahead, but for your everyday protection, you are almost certainly better off with the latest stable version.

    First thanks for your reply.

But the only negative that I would expect from a beta is to be buggy, and not to be unreliable for everyday protection, in as much as it uses the same signatures and heuristics with the stable version, if I am not wrong.

I don't know anybody that would advise using a beta on a primary machine as there could be bugs in how a detected threat is handled. Also a buggy beta could mess up your machine. Maybe you should ask yourself what you would do if you were wrong.

True, but if it crashes when you are not there, or if there are as-yet undiscovered vulnerabilities in the beta engine, then you will be less secure.

Been running it here with no problems. Seems a few bugs have been fixed. Running on my main machine with no worries. Try it and see for yourself.

Do you install it on top of the current avira or uninstall the old one first?

mike21 couldn't you run it with Shadow Defender? Or am I misunderstanding what the program is for?

It can't be installed with SD, because Avira always asks for a reboot upon installing it. SD can't keep a shadow session across reboots.

Well said. Thats its only flaw as a program. I wish I could restart in shadow mode. AFAIK from this type of software only shadowuser has (had) this potential. Do you know any other that allows reboot in shadow mode?

Unfortunately there aren't any(AFAIK), as you said ShadowUser was great for this feature. The only alternative would be something like RollbackRx and EasyFix but they are ISR and not virtualizers, requiring some kind of disk maintenance according to its users.

You could have come up with the UI changes in 5 minutes at most. I hope nobody billed any work hours for that. If they did they should be charged with theft, as the overall changes are superficial at best. Go big or go home.

IMO what Avira needs badly is to fix its ProActiv module which might improve its 0 day detection. Stephan Kurtzhals has already mentioned that they are going to work on it. On the other hand Avira has shown good results in the last AV Comparative. I was a bit concerned lately, but I'm now convinced that within a year Avira will excel in just about any area of detection.
