I am trying to install the Trial version of AVG 7.1 (latest revision
    from Grisoft website)

OS: win XP SP2 - no other spyware protection/Antivirus/Firewall is running.
I get this weird error message:

Error: Evaluating of the short file name failed for "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgfwsrv.exe".
Creating of the temporary folder "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgfwsrv.exe" failed.
    The system cannot find the file specified. (2) %PATH% = "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgfwsrv.exe"

Does anyone have any suggestion how to solve this issue and install the
    software?

    Thank you

I received a message asking the following:

    ***************
have they bundled a firewall in with the suite this time?...could be that you have conflicts here, or it might be picking up on your router firewall?....
    ***************

Yes, I downloaded the bundled firewall and virus protecion, however,
this does not seem to be the source of the problem. I now downloaded just
the AVG 7.1 antivirus and tried to install and this is the error I get:

    Local machine: installation failed
    Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgamsvr.exe: creating file....
    No such file or directory

Silly question perhaps, but are you using an Admin account and not a limited account ? Sounds like something is not allowing the creation of the needed folders.

Using an account with full admin privileges.
    I can do everything else.

.... However, besides the installation problems, I have encountered other strange behaviors on my computer such as
    all my printers diappeared.

Sound slike you could have a dodgy windows installation or something. Maybe try a fresh install of windows, update it fully then try installing the software. If worst comes to worst you can always try etrust antivirus. You can get a free 12 month license on the microsoft windows website. Its very light and great for the average user.
