I found this review helpful, thanks! Something the review did evaluate though is AVG's self-protection. In the past I've seen malware just turn AVG off and it would good know if it is more resistant to that now.

Edit: Regarding default settings, Removal Device Scan is OFF. Also the Scheduled Scan task is OFF.

lol... sometimes it's difficult to tell with the written word.
Maybe we should create a forum where members would have to use web cams.

I don"t get why people are having a problem with AVG2013 installation. I have installed it and its up and running now for a few days and has given me no problems. Maybe because I de-fragment, use CCleaner, and registry defrag. I have had no issues with it and it works fine on my machine. What's probably happening is conflicts with your other security software and or registry traces / running processes from old deleted security software. I run AVG on its own and that's probably why it works fine, as it was not meant for hugely mod level security. Its a product designed for the average consumer which won't have OS hardening/ HIPS, anti-exe, etc etc.

i agree, other than a decent slowdown during boot up its lean fast and seems to detect eveything i throw at it now that i learned some of the settings were default to off. i turned on the unwanted programs and set it to all file types and set up the whole computer scan and i have to say it so far has stopped almost everything i threw at it. even every rouge i tested so far one of which slipped right through on eset with the pua's turned on and the hueristics set to high. avg detected it which was VERY surprising. i personally dont like the gui but i also really dislike metro. i do however like this far better than the previous gui. im almost tempted to buy it honestly. im going to do a bit more testing and i have NEVER been a avg person we sell it but i always found it to be just average and this is surprising me. i did early beta testing but when all it would do was crash the system i was testing on i decided to pass.

Told you, its all about the settings. If AVG is configured correctly it can compete very well, and the only reason its not set that way by default is that they obviously don't was their free customers complaining when its detecting video game patching/keygen programs ^_~

I've spent the entire day, no make that two days, updating all the AVG 2013 products across all the various stores. Here you go: http://store.downloadcrew.com/?act=search&brand=18

Bundles have changed slightly, also created a new AVG IS + AVG PC TuneUp and AVG AV + PC TuneUp bundles. We'll create some TuneUp Utilities 2013 + AVG IS/AV bundles when the 2013 version is released in just over a week.

The 'fun' weekends I have in this business, can't be measured :)

I tried it out and it doesn't seem functionally different to AVG 2012. The new options for "AVG self-protection" seem to indicate they put some work in this department. Can't say I like the new look too much - the UI is very usable but the colour palette is not to my liking.

EDIT: I'm glad they didn't fall into corporate speculation and decided to use the internal version number 13.0 :D

There are some 4-PC, 2-YR codes in stock, not many. But we agreed some deals and prices with AVG and we forgot to agree on 4-PC, 2-Year, so we only have a small number left. I'll try and get it online tomorrow (at least for now!).

Does it still have 8 or 13 processes in the free version?

Well, probably I sounded a bit drastic. But I mean, there are complaints about it crashing browsers and bugging while being uninstalled... I use the free version on my dad's laptop which he uses on a daily basis. I don't want him to deal with crashes, in fact I don't want him to deal with AVG at all cause he wouldn't know what to do and probably would end up frustrated and without his job done.

BTW, does somebody know if this (and when) will be pushed as auto-upgrade?

Thanks man, it's my motto... ;)

I think I had less that, but I did a custom install, and didn't use things like email shield(i use webmail), or the gadget.

Is there a way to opt out of installing the toolbar during a custom install?

Is it true that it hijacks browser settings? I'm asking based on user reviews from CNet.
