Installed AVG IS 2012 (had a spare license), running very good on my avg system. v2011 was already a good product and this version is even better;)

I thought I read earlier there was a way to remove the PC Optimizer, LiveKive, and Family Safety icons from AVG 2012, is there?

PC Optimizer can be unticked on custom installation screen while using the paid version. The other icons on my installation AVG IS are visible with now way that I see to remove them.

I'm really liking AVG 2012. I only have two issues with it: Linkscanner not working with FF7 beta ( which is understandable, i suppose) and it doesn't seem to do anything against "Full-Screen Ransomware" in which the malware does not give you access to your machine until you do what it wants.

I let the ransomeware run for about ten minutes hoping identity protection would stop it, but it did not. The PC was more or less completely unusable.

Other than that, it's extremely light and it's getting to mature into a very strong antivirus.

To be fair, can any AV function once the ransom-ware takes hold? I'd like to see a test where this kind of malware was thrown at all the leading AVs. It may be that some can intercept and kill it before it loads, but once it loads I don't know.

After giving AVG a few tests, it appears it's blazing fast - the full system scan is much faster now. Also, AVG 2012 may probably be one of the most multithreaded AV applications out there - I saw 90% CPU utilization on all 4 cores with consistent and equal loading during scanning, something I had not observed earlier (Earlier, the loads on the 4 cores would not be the same).

Not on a netbook, but I installed it on an old laptop with Celeron M/512mb RAM. Doesn't feel heavy at all. ;)

I avoid toolbars like the plague, but my friend recently installed AVG 2012 and never unchecked the AVG security toolbar, therefore she got it.

Since then it has caused a lot of trouble with her Google searches by hijacking them onto the AVG toolbar and making life unbearable.

    I gave her this link :- http://www.avg.com/ww-en/faq.num-2307

It is supposed to get rid of all the AVG toolbar bits and bobs on the computer and leaves AVG to do what it supposed to do - work in the background as an AV program and not interfere with searches.

Will this procedure work 100% ?

    Thanks
    John

i think if you opt out of the toolbar during install it still lets you scan trafflic with the linkscanner part right?

Yes, Brocke - the Linkscanner still works as an item in the standard AVG package.

The AVG link I gave, basically means you go through the whole install process again, but this time on REPAIR and to uncheck the toolbar option.

I am simply asking if this will totally erase an existing toolbar - AVG appear to say so.

I updated this morning and ran a scan but I did not notice any improvement in scan speed. However, I will take it anyway. I am still using Windows XP SP3 Firewall. Whenever it scans a libxml2 source code or even the Perl package source code it detects false positive infections. The update was smaller than I expected, less than 34 MB. I haven't received the annoying pop-up urging me to update to the full version yet.:)

You should run a second scan :)

You will get a pop-up with PC Analyzer advertisement from time to time :doubt:

After doing some testing, I am noticing that Online Shield & Link Scanner impact my pings. Anyone else seeing this?
